Citizen of the Year Banquet

 
 


The Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations, along with the Citizen of the Year  co-sponsor The Washington Post hosted the 58th annual Fairfax County Citizen of the Year Awards Banquet at the Crowne Plaza Tysons Corner hotel. The Federation and The Washington Post presented John Horejsi the 2007 Citizen of the Year Award for his actions as founder of Social Action Linking Together (SALT). Mr. Horejsi founded SALT in 1983 to influence public policy for individuals and families disenfranchised by economic and social standing. SALT has grown to a network of over 1,000 social justice volunteers. Mr. Horejsi’s advocacy has helped passage of Virginia’s Earned Income Tax Credit, and the creation of Homeless Intervention Program, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. decades of volunteer work with the Route One Task Force for Human Services, the South County Community Health Care Center, the Community Health Care Network and the Program of Assertive Community Treatment Program.

Federation President Jeff Parnes acted as Master of Ceremonies.

The Honorable Thomas M. Davis, U. S. Representative, Eleventh District, and Gerald E. Connolly, Chairman, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors were the featured Guest Speakers.

Special Gratitude Awards were presented to the immediate past members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors: Joan DuBois, Dana Kauffman, and Elaine McConnell.
